WAVES Recruitment Activity

Recruitment posters played a large role in helping women decide to join the WAVES program. The posters often showed the women proudly serving their country. The posters worked, and when World War II was over nearly 80,000 women had served in the WAVES.

Using any crafting supplies you might have, design a recruitment poster for the WAVES or any other cause that you are passionate about!

Supplies

• Paper
• Pens and pencils
• Markers, crayons or coloring pencils
• Stickers or decorative tape
• Glitter, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, etc.

Instructions

1. Posters are excellent ways to spread a message. Decide if you would like to draw a poster for the WAVES or a cause you are passionate about. You could create a poster that encourages people to read. You could create a poster that tells people to drink more water. You could create a poster for your favorite restaurant. The possibilities are endless!
2. Get creative with your drawings. Make sure the poster is simple and easy to understand but still gets the message across to your viewer. Chose elements that make your poster stand out, such as bright colors or well-drawn characters.
3. When you’re done with your poster, display it for all to see!
