Episode 93: Have a Coke (Date)

When it comes to choosing a soda today, you have many options to choose from. But back in the day, there was far less competition, and Coca-Cola stood out against the crowd. There is so much more to the story of Coke than the company itself though. The social implications of ‘getting a coke’ or ‘going on coke dates’ is far less prevalent now, but was one of the most popular and affordable hang out options to choose from in the middle of the 20^th century.

Today, we’re exploring how ‘going to get a Coke’ became more than just getting a drink. We’ll also hear from OSU History professor and Director of the American Studies Program Dr. John Kinder talk about Coke’s significance throughout World War II and how the beverage became so affiliated with the idea of America.
