Stephen Wanger

Editor of "Emerging International Issues in Student Affairs Research and Practice"

Stephen P. Wanger is an Associate Professor of Higher Education Administration. He holds a Don and Cathey Humphreys Chair in International Studies and serves as the Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) Program Coordinator for Doctoral and International Programs. He is the Director of the Joint Center for Student Affairs Research and Professional Practice, a collaborative research center between the HESA academic program, the OSU Division of Student Affairs, and the University of Science and Technology Beijing in Beijing, China (the primary university for the training of student affairs professionals for all of China).

He holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Purdue University, a Master’s degree from Duke University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Oral Roberts University. His research focuses on higher education issues associated with the rise of nationalism and nativism, globalization and internationalization, transnational public policy, academic program development and collaboration and study abroad. He has been instrumental in the development of research capacity and academic program collaborations with universities and higher education systems in Thailand, Vietnam, Belize, China and Mexico.

"Emerging International Issues in Student Affairs Research and Practice" is co-edited by two OSU faculty members – Dr. Amber Manning-Ouellette and Dr. Stephen P. Wanger. This book situates developing issues in student affairs through research, new and emergent methodologies, pedagogies and practices. The text aims to encourage intercultural perspectives and opportunities across student affairs research and practice, while calling upon international student affairs practitioners, faculty and staff to engage in international evidence-based research that provides a foundation toward a collective consensus of the field. To accomplish these goals, the editors invited predominant practitioners in student affairs practice and student affairs scholars from across the globe to engage in discourse, share their insights and offer implications to the student affairs profession at the international level. The editors do this by dividing the text into two parts: "Part I: Theoretical, Historical, Cultural, and Ideological Considerations in International Student Affairs" and "Part II: Emergent International Issues and Practice in Student Affairs.
