Co-Author of "Applied Engineering Statistics" (2nd Edition)

Russ Rhinehart, professor and BP Chair emeritus in the School of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University, has experience in both industry and academia. He was Head of the OSU ChE program for 13 years. His career interest has been the application of first-principles models in process control. He is a fellow of the International Society of Automation (ISA) and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), served as Editor-in-Chief of ISA Transactions, was inducted into the CONTROL Automation Hall of Fame and received a Fray International Sustainability Award. He is Past President of the American Automatic Control Council. Now “retired,” he is working to disseminate techniques for process analysis, control and optimization with his website (www.r3eda.com), short courses, books and articles. He is the author of three books and six handbook chapters. His 1968 B.S. in Chemical Engineering and subsequent M.S. in Nuclear Engineering are both from the University of Maryland. His 1985 Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering is from North Carolina State University.

"Applied Engineering Statistics," 2nd Edition is about practicable methods of statistical applications for engineers as well as for scientists and business people. Contrasting a mathematical and abstract orientation of many statistics texts, which express the science/math values of researchers, this book will present the fundamental concepts, provide some supporting derivation, and focus on the application to concrete examples and the interpretation of outcomes. It is written to be useful for the self-learner, who needs to understand accepted methods, the issues that confound them, how to collect data within the constraints of the enterprise, and how to make concrete and legitimate decisions from the non-ideal data.

"Applied Engineering Statistics, 2nd Edition" could be useful for students in the 3rd or 4th year of a BS engineering, hard sciences, or business program. However, the intent is that the text would continue to be useful in post graduate research or professional life.
