Mohamed Abdelsalam

Editor of "Geology of the Arabian-Nubian Shield"

Mohamed Abdelsalam is a Regents Professor, Boone Pickens Chair of Applied Geophysics and Professor of Geology in Boone Pickens School of Geology at Oklahoma State University. He joined OSU in the fall of 2012. Before that, he was an Associate Professor/Professor in the Program of Geology and Geophysics at Missouri University of Science and Technology between 2006 and 2012 and an Associate Scientist/Scientist/Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Dallas between 1993 and 2006. Mohamed earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geology at the University of Khartoum, Sudan in 1984 and 1987, respectfully, and a Ph.D. degree in Geosciences at the University of Texas at Dallas in 1993. Mohamed is a student of African Geology. In the past 30 years, he has conducted geological research in many parts of Africa to understand geological events that happened from the Archean (more than 2,500 million years ago) to the present. Mohamed is a fellow of the Geological Society of America and the Geological Society of Africa. He served as the President of the Geological Society of Africa between 2001 and 2004, and currently he is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of African Earth Sciences.

This book deals with the Precambrian Geology of the Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS) that extends in NE Africa and Arabia. The book is arranged in five themes: the nature and boundaries of the ANS; the juvenile and pre-Neoproterozoic components of the shield; the deformation events, magmatism/volcanism and sedimentary basins evolution of the shield; key petrological, mineralogical and geochronological aspects of the ANS; and the Phanerozoic events that followed the formation of the ANS.
