Editor of "Introduction to Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response" and "Live Fire Instructor"

Jeff Fortney is a senior editor at Fire Protection Publications (FPP). He has served as project manager on numerous International Fire Service Training Association’s (IFSTA) training manuals to include those for: Plans Examiners, Industrial and Facility Fire Brigades, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, Vehicle Extrication, Fire Service Orientation and Terminology, Fire Service Company Officers, Chief Officers, Live Fire Instructors and Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response. He was the co-writer of Essentials of Fire Fighting (7th edition) and served as a photographer on numerous FPP and IFSTA projects over the last 19years. He is currently Lead Senior Editor on Essentials of Fire Fighting (8th edition).

Mr. Fortney served in the U.S. Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist, Rescue Crew Chief, and ARFF Driver/Operator and Crew Chief. He also served as a Master Instructor at the USAF Fire School at Chanute AFB and as a Master Instructor and Training Specialist at the DOD Fire Training Academy at Goodfellow AFB. Mr. Fortney also served as the Deputy Director of the Arkansas Fire Academy and Program Manager for Southern Arkansas University-Tech’s Fire Science program.

Mr. Fortney has published eight science fiction and military action/adventure novels. He is currently writing his ninth novel.

About "Introduction to Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response"

This manual will serve as an introduction to Active Shooter/Hostile Events (AHSE) and meet the fire service requirements of NFPA 3000. It will define how to establish an ASHE training program on the local level, how to conduct threat assessment of your community, how to coordinate response with other responders and how to recover from an ASHE event.

About "Live Fire Instructor"

The purpose of "Live Fire Instructor" is to familiarize both instructors and participants with general safety requirements; evolution procedures to follow pre-, during and post-training; essential equipment and PPE needs; training structure types and limitations; pre and post training structure inspecting; fuel requirements; medical monitoring; forms; and instructor role responsibilities. The audience for the manual includes:

• College students
• Fire service personnel
• All others seeking information on procedures for conducting live fire training

The scope of this manual is to provide up-to-date information on live fire training procedures. This manual is written using current job performance requirements outlined in NFPA 1403, Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions.
