Dr. Jacinta Mutambuki, the Edward Bartlett Professor of Pedagogy in Chemistry, joined the Department of Chemistry at OSU in fall 2018 at the level of an Assistant Professor from the Washington University in St. Louis, where she completed her postdoc training. She holds her Bachelor’s degree in Science Education (Chemistry/Math) from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, a master’s degree in Chemistry-Chemical Education, and a doctorate in Science Education/Chemistry from Western Michigan University. Dr. Mutambuki’s research in Chemical Education aims at improving undergraduate STEM Education through evidence-based pedagogies and curricula innovations, as well as the development of assessment tools for measuring effective instruction in STEM classrooms. Dr. Mutambuki teaches the General Chemistry course, a prerequisite for many STEM programs with an enrollment ranging between 150-270 students per class. She also teaches an Honor’s course focused on deconstructing scientific literature and conceptualizing scientific research, and graduate-level courses in Chemical/STEM Education. With her collaborators, Drs. Kay Bjornen and Megan Carlton, Dr. Mutambuki recently co-authored a Book Chapter titled, "Disciplinary data literacy: Expanding on what instructors already teach" in Teaching Research Data Management.

The usefulness of research data management skills bridges numerous activities, from data-driven scholarship and open research by faculty to documentation for grant reporting. And undergrads need a solid foundation in data management for future academic success. This collection gathers practitioners from a broad range of academic libraries to describe their services and instruction around research data. You will learn about such topics as:

• integrating research data management into information literacy instruction;
• threshold concepts for novice learners of data management;
• four key competencies that are entry points for library-faculty collaboration in data instruction;
• an 8-step plan for outreach to faculty and grad students in engineering and the sciences;
• using RStudio to teach data management, data visualization, and research reproducibility;
• expanding data management instruction with adaptable modules for remote learning;
• designing a data management workshop series;
• developing a research guide on data types, open data repositories, and data storage;
• creating a data management plan assignment for STEM undergraduates; and
• data management training to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
