Senior Graphic Designer of "Leadership for the Wildland Fire Officer: Leading in a Dangerous Profession" (2nd Edition) and "Public Information Officer" (2nd Edition)

Errick Braggs started his career in 1995 after graduating OSU-Institute of Technology with an associate degree in graphic design. He worked in the advertising agency industry for several years until after the birth of his first child, when he transitioned his career path to corporate, in-house design jobs.

In 2008 Errick began working as a senior graphic designer, with OSU’s Fire Protection Publications. Not only does he work for Oklahoma’s greatest university, but he also earned a BFA from OSU in 2014. Putting his education and experience to good use, he helps produce training manuals and educational materials for professional firefighters. Errick said, “Fire Protection Publications' books are widely used within the United States but are also translated into nine other languages and used worldwide. The impact of my work here saves lives and changes the world, and I love that.”

About "Leadership for the Wildland Fire Officer" 

The 2nd Edition of Bill Teie’s "Leadership for the Wildland Fire Officer: Leading in a Dangerous Profession" has been developed to address various supervisory and leadership positions of wildland firefighting outlined by the National Wildfire Coordinators Group (NWCG). This book is aimed toward new and experienced wildland firefighters who serve in a leadership role within their organizations. Chapters 1-5 are an excellent tool for any current or future leader in fire service. Chapters 6-9 deal with the situational and tactical processes a wildland fire officer faces daily. Following Chapter 9 is an addendum containing 15 after-action reports of "Fires We Should Not Forget" as well as the lesson learned from each fire.

About "Public Information Officer"

The second edition of "Fire Protection Publications Public Information Officer" provides basic skills and awareness training for fire department PIOs. The purpose of this manual is to provide an overview of the skills and knowledge a PIO needs to perform the diverse and demanding tasks associated with this position. The manual prepares the PIO in training to meet the job performance requirements of NFPA 1035, Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist and Youth Firesetter Program Manager Professional Qualifications (2015).

The scope of this manual addresses the PIO’s role in disseminating public information, increasing community preparedness, exercising social media responsibilities, and assisting the Incident Commander at an emergency scene. This manual discusses the PIO’s relationship with internal and external stakeholders, as well as opportunities to strengthen this relationship through community outreach and public information programs. Other topics include relevant laws/policies, effective written and public speaking skills, and how to work successfully with the media.
