Randi Eldevik

Randi Eldevik received a doctorate degree in Comparative Literature from Harvard University in 1987, and she joined the English faculty at Oklahoma State University the same year. Her dissertation was concerned with the Trojan War and with the Latin sources of a medieval Icelandic saga concerning the Trojan War; several of her publications are concerned with the same subject.

Additionally, she translated the French book "La matière du nord" into English as "The Matter of the North." In the 2018 Brepols book "Pre-Christian Religions of the North: Research and Reception" Volume II she wrote the chapter on Old Norse mythology in Anglophone fantasy and science fiction from 1940 to the present. Her main interests are comparative mythology, the epic genre and the reception of the classical tradition.

The research and reception strand of the Pre-Christian Religions of the North project establishes a definitive survey of the current and historical uses and interpretations of pre-Christian mythology and religious material, tracing the many ways in which people both within and outside Scandinavia have understood and been influenced by these religions, from the Christian Middle Ages to contemporary media of all kinds.

The first volume traced the reception down to the early 19th century, while the present volume takes up the story from circa 1830 to the present day and the burgeoning of interest across a diversity of new as well as old media.
