Lisa Lewis

Lisa Lewis was educated at the Iowa Writers Workshop, Master of Fine Arts, and the University of Houston, doctorate degree. She has received awards from the American Poetry Review, Crazyhorse, and the Missouri Review, as well as a Pushcart Prize, and her poems appear in two editions of Best American Poetry.

Her books are “The Unbeliever,” “Silent Treatment,” “Story Box,” “Vivisect,” “Burned House with Swimming Pool,” winner of the American Poetry Journal prize, “The Body Double,” and, most recently, “Taxonomy of the Missing.” In 2011 she was awarded a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Recent work appears or is forthcoming in South Dakota Review, American Journal of Poetry, Florida Review, Four Way Review, and New England Review. She serves as poetry editor of the Cimarron Review, and from 2000-2016 she directed the OSU creative writing program.

“Taxonomy of the Missing” is an award-winning collection of poetry that explores environmental and feminist themes with additional emphasis on the ways aging affects women and their relationships with one another. Environmental topics are specific to regional concerns of Oklahoma in that they include the consequences of, and motivations for, fracking.
