After spending 15 years in secondary education in Oklahoma, Colby returned back to his home in Glencoe, Oklahoma. His wife Shelley and he have recently built a home east of Stillwater where they and their four children reside. Between the two of them, they have seven children and five grandchildren.

Colby has been a volunteer firefighter for 17 years and is a current member of the Glencoe Fire Department. His passion for family and community keep him active and involved. His love of outdoors and traveling take up the majority of his free time.

The new 4th Edition of “Firefighters Handbook on Wildland Firefighting: Strategy, Tactics and Safety” by noted wildland firefighting author Bill Teie is updated to address the most current National Fire Protection Association and National Wildfire Coordinating Group standards and qualifications for wildland firefighting. This book is written for the fire personnel who need a basic understanding of wildland firefighting.

Firefighters and fire officers who have primary wildland responsibilities and who may be called into a wildland fire situation as a mutual aid response will all find this handbook valuable.

This handbook combines critical components from the 2016 edition of NFPA 1051 and NWCG documents into one source for wildland firefighters, officers and command staff. The NFPA and NWCG documents are referenced at the front of each chapter. The new edition now includes a Fireline Construction chapter. The content is sequenced to logically build competency from the first through all 15 chapters of the book.

The curriculum covers all 15 chapters of the “Firefighter's Handbook On Wildland Firefighting Strategy, Tactics and Safety, 4th Edition.” The components are designed for use in both a traditional face-to-face and hybrid classroom environment.
