Cindy Brakhage is a Senior Editor with International Fire Service Training Association and Fire Protection Publications. Using her Oklahoma State University degree in English, she has had the opportunity and privilege to work as an editor with IFSTA/FPP for over 35 years. She has worked with many IFSTA Validating Committees as well as served as project manager/senior editor on many of the IFSTA books. Most recently, she has served as the project manager and editor of the FPP manual, “Fire Prevention Applications, 2nd Edition.”

This new 2nd Edition of “Fire Prevention Applications” presents fire prevention methods for comprehensive risk reduction strategies in detail. Community coalition building to solve present-day community risk challenges is emphasized.

The book meets the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education model Fire Prevention Organization and Management course. It can be used as a guide to implement a modern fire prevention and risk reduction program. It also provides fire prevention organizational structures, staffing options; with emphasis on successfully overcoming the challenges fire prevention and risk reduction bureaus face today.

“Ground Cover Fire Fighting For Structural Firefighters” is for emergency responders who encounter fast-moving fires that are commonly referred to as ground cover fires or brush fires, as opposed to forest or wildland fires. This book combines information from three trusted sources, the U.S. Forest Service, the National Wildfire Coordinating Group and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The information in this manual presents organized, safe and effective responses to ground cover fires.

The standards referenced in the book are National Fire Protection Association 1977, Standard on Protective Clothing and Equipment for Wildland Fire Fighting, NFPA 1051, Standard for Wildland Firefighting Professional Qualifications and NFPA 1906, Standard for Wildland Fire Apparatus. The book includes key terms and a glossary.
