2023 First Floor Painting Project

Phases 1-4 & 6 complete

Update-April 20, 2023

Phases 1-4 and 6 have been completed ahead of schedule. To reduce the disruption to Library operations, Phase 5, the Service Center, will be completed after spring finals conclude. 

Phase 4 underway

Update-Feb. 27, 2023

Phase 4 of the first floor painting project has begun, which covers the east-west corridor. There are currently no study rooms impacted, however study bars in this area my be inaccessible at times. Please be mindful of painting crews when accessing the office located along the corridor. 

We anticipate painting the study room near Cafe Libro during Spring Break and the Service Center after finals week. 

Phase 3 begins ahead of schedule

Update-Jan. 30, 2023

Phase 2 of the first floor painting project is complete. Study rooms on the east side of the floor are reopened. 

Preparation for phase 3 begins this week. The west-central area of the floor will be closed off to accommodate painting. While this phase is in progress, study room 102D, 102E, 109G, 109H and 109K will be unavailable for reservations. Check the study room reservations page to find available study rooms. 

While work is in progress, please avoid the west-central are of the floor. Use the corridor just north of the grand staircase to access the restrooms on the west side of the floor as well as study rooms 109C and 109F. 

Study Rooms 102Q, R and S now available

Phase 2 continues ahead of schedule. Study Rooms 102 Q, 102 R and 102 S are complete and once again available for reservations. 

The Relax and Read collection has been temporiarly relocated to the South Lobby in preparation for Phase 3 painting. 

Phase 2 Partially Completed

Update-Jan. 17, 2023

The seating area in the northeast corner of the first floor has reopened, and the group seating has been expanded. The six study rooms on the east side of the first floor are closed for painting but will become available as work is completed. Check the study room reservations page to find available study rooms. 

Painting Begins on First Floor

Update-Dec. 14, 2022

The Edmon Low Library’s first floor repainting begins on Dec. 19. The project is anticipated to be completed August 2023, and it will take place in phases to limit the impact to Library visitors. These improvements are made possible through a First Impressions Grant provided through the University department of Facilities Management.

Phase 1: Anticipated timeframe is Dec. 13 to Jan. 13

This phase will impact a large portion of the computer cluster and is planned for winter break to minimize inconvenience. Visitors will find additional computers on the north side of the first floor as well as the central area of the fifth floor.

Phase 2: Anticipated timeframe is Jan. 16 to March 10

The phase will limit access to a portion of the computer cluster and the six study rooms on the east side of the first floor. Additional study rooms remain available on the west side of the first floor as well as on second and third floors.

Phase 3: Anticipated timeframe is March 13 to April 21

This stage will temporarily reduce group seating on the first floor. Other group seating options can be found on the lower level, second and third floor. The five study rooms on the southwest side of the first floor and the Event Room will be unavailable at this time.

Phase 4: Anticipated timeframe is April 24 to June 2

The primary east-west corridor will be impacted during this stage. Study bars in this area will be unavailable. Look for directional signage to access offices and Creative Studios during this time.

Phase 5: Anticipated timeframe is June 5 to June 30

The Steve and Susan Hayden Raybourn Service Center will be repainted in this phase of work. Service points will likely shift throughout this phase of work. Look for directional signage and other announcements for more information.

Phase 6: Anticipated timeframe is July 3 to Aug. 4

The final stage of work will impact the Café Libro area including the study rooms. Additional study rooms remain available throughout the first floor as well as on second and third floors.
