7th Annual Library Botany Lecture held April 10

Plants, People & Beyond Lecture Explores Medicinal Plants

Each spring the OSU Library and Department of Botany host a lecture exploring the interaction of people and plants. Kelly Kindscher, senior scientist and professor at the University of Kansas, will headline the event with his presentation, "Prairie Ethnobotany: The Native Medicinal Plant Research Program."

The seventh annual "Plants, People & Beyond: the annual Library-Botany lecture" is April 10, at 3:30 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room, Edmon Low Library.

The talk is focused on Kindscher's current findings, which include his collection of medical plants, such as Physalis longifolia, or wild tomatillo, a plant native to Kansas. His data is directly benefitting the KU Native Medicinal Plant Research Program.

Kindscher is the author of two books: "Edible Wild Plants of the Prairie" and "Medicinal Wild Plants of the Prairie." Having grown up in the prairie bioregion, he is passionate about native plants, landscapes and wild environments.

The lecture is co-sponsored by OSU Botanical Society, Oklahoma Native Plant Society, Cross Timbers Chapter, OSU Department of Integrative Biology, OSU Department of Natural Resources and Ecology Management, OSU Environmental Science Graduate Program.
