Erik Larson headlines OSU Library fundraiser

Erik Larson is known for blending historical accuracy and gripping storytelling, a combination that has landed him on the NYT bestseller list six times. On Oct. 13, Larson will share his personal story with guests of H. Louise & H.E. “Ed” Cobb Speaker Series.

“Each year, my staff and the Friends Board of Directors consider a number of potential speaker options,” said Dean of Libraries Sheila Johnson. “We strive to feature a variety of authors, and this year history buffs will be particularly pleased with our choice.”

Larson’s most recent book, “The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz” examines how Winston Churchill and his “Secret Circle” went about surviving the German air campaign of 1940-41. His “The Devil in the White City” is set to be a Hulu limited series, and “In the Garden of Beasts” is under option by Tom Hanks, for a feature film. Larson recently published an audio-original ghost story, “No One Goes Alone,” which has been optioned by Netflix.

“We look for prominent authors, but more than that we look for great storytellers who can wow an audience,” Johnson said. “We’ve found that in Erik Larson.”

The event will be held at Meditations Event Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Ticket holders will enjoy dinner, complimentary wine service, and a keynote and Q&A with Larson. The event closes with a book signing, and selections of Larson’s work will be available for purchase.

The Cobb Speaker Series is the largest annual fundraiser for the Friends of the OSU Library, which provides support for the University’s Libraries. The group focuses on services and resources that directly benefit students, and all profits from the event will directly support this mission.
